Home!

I think I was talking about tackling the living room and other stuff.  I get behind very easily.  I have my own photos now and I suppose I should post them.  I also figured out some lighting by combining the ideas behind several of the pricey items that are commercially available.  I found a tutorial for making a pendant lamp out of fabric strips and a metal frame.  I can't find a picture right now, but maybe you can imagine it?  I sort of hated it, but the fabric strips were appealing.  Here is a not-so-great photo of what I came up with:

I have a basic and cheap cord with socket, a cheapy hardware store bulb cage, and a reproduction Edison bulb.  The bulbs are more expensive than a basic light bulb, but they a add a really nice detail and produce a different kind of light.  The bulbs make an interesting pattern on the ceiling (a little of this can be seen in the photo above-- look behind the wire cage).  They also have a warm, yellowy glow.  It's a different kind of light than what I'm used to, but it seems to be working.  Now I can see and I was able to put my other lights back where they belong.

The new living room:

The couch with a new throw pillow-bot and some art work that's been hanging around was finally hung.

Our Eames knock-off came and we put it together during a 2 hour school delay.  I absolutely love it.

Also, in keeping with tax return tradition, I got a new piece of artwork.  Yay for faux taxidermy and for art that goes on sale.

That's my living room round up for now.  I'm still trying figure out how to take pictures in the house.  The lighting is totally different and it's difficult to get good photos.  From the dining room/living room area I went to my daughter's room.  The weather has not been my friend for outdoor decor, but I have been piling up my project supplies.

The Bean's room is all about this:

Next time...

We moved.

We live here now.  Not in a "house with many rooms"-- also known as an apartment building.  We like it lots.  I decided to tackle the living room first.  I'm doing a little updating and changing to what I already have; curtains, a chair, put out the new Tv, etc.  Here's a little peek at what's new:

This is not my living room, but I do love this woman's house and I ordered the same rocking chair.  It's my solution to a kitty clawing problem.
Once again, this space isn't mine, but I did pick up one of these typwriter carts for the new TV.  It's far too big for my little cabinet.
A new throw pillow for the couch.  I'm trying to bring in some of the blue that's in the artwork now.

Pictures of the actual room coming soon, but for now, check out this living room.

I'm getting behind on this...

Christmas came and went, then New Year's, and then my birthday...

The highlights are:  Athena got everything she wanted for Christmas and had a great time.  I got everything I wanted (except for snow boots and now those will have to wait) and I decided holidays are more fun when you take a friend.  I baked and assisted in the baking of new things,  I sold some arty type stuff, and I finished a piece for a show; not everything was a success, but it was an experience.  Now it's almost time to move... in the winter... and maybe in snow... ick.

We're going to a house!  No more apartment, but this isn't the house; it's far too small and made of cookies, plus there are no windows.  I'm more excited about warm weather and the house because we'll finally have outdoor space, but I'll  survive a move in winter... right?

This lady went to Disney World for the first time and loved it.  She spent one week roaming the Magic Kingdom and swimming at a resort.  So much nicer than dealing with the snow here.

This is the Christmas tutu I knocked out for one surprised and happy little ballerina, but... it was too tight.  So this is the tutu that is sitting on my table waiting to be fixed and it will be, by Saturday morning.  Well, I was close.  It was almost a success.  I tried a different method of construction for the waist band this time and obviously it needs some work (seeing as how by the time it was together I had lost too much length).  I hadn't realized how much 'shrinkage' I would have.  I assumed there would be a little, but not nearly as much as there was.  I did discover though that the ratio of 3 or 4 to 1 was super great (3 or 4 times the waist measurement for the amount of tulle to gather).
